Pied Pipers Make Roscoe Pay in Overtime

ROSCOE, Texas — Hamlin visited Roscoe last night in a defensive slugfest that turned into a late-game shootout, as the Hamlin Pied Pipers edged out the Roscoe Plowboys 21–14 overtime.

The first half was a defensive battle from the opening kickoff. Both teams traded turnovers, with Hamlin’s Hagen Holland snagging an early tipped interception and Roscoe’s defense forcing a key red zone stop to keep the game scoreless heading into the second quarter.

Roscoe’s Jace Arnwine intercepted a pass midway through the second quarter, but neither team could find the end zone before the halftime score being 0-0.

After halftime, Hamlin broke through. Running back Kyson McGee powered in for the game’s first touchdown, giving the Pied Pipers a 6–0 lead. The Plowboys blocked the extra point, but Hamlin quickly struck again Reece Rainey turned on the jets for a 74-yard touchdown, and Luke White added the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 14–0.

Roscoe, however, refused to back down. A touchdown pass from Jace Arnwine to Aiden Brown put the Plowboys on the board early in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 14–7. Moments later, Brown made another huge play, intercepting a Hamlin pass and returning it deep into Pied Piper territory. Arnwine capitalized again, keeping the ball for a quarterback sneak touchdown to tie the game at 14–14, forcing overtime.

In overtime, Hamlin reached into the playbook for a little trickery.  Isaiah Hutchings executed a halfback pass, connecting with Kyson McGee for the go-ahead touchdown. The extra point was good, sealing a 21–14 victory for the Pied Pipers.
