FRIDAY. NIGHT. LIGHTS.

I played under them growing up in New Mexico and have covered high school football in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, but when it comes down to it, there’s something special about games under those Friday night lights in the Lone Star state. Football in the Big Country holds a special place in my heart as I saw my first Texas high school game at Shotwell Stadium and covered and called many games in my time at KRBC TV and KVRP radio in Haskell.

I’ve been a part of producing a high school and college football preview magazine for 17 years :

  • three at KOAM/KFJX television in Pittsburg, Kansas and Joplin, Missouri

  • ten at KBTX television in Bryan/College Station, Texas

  • and now I am working on my fourth on my own with Big County Blitz, headquartered in Abilene, Texas.

Big Country Blitz will hopefully become a football staple in the Big Country. For now we’ll preview 54 high school teams plus Abilene Christian, Hardin-Simmons, Howard Payne, McMurry and Cisco College.

I live in Abilene with my beautiful wife Allison and kids Creyton, Denson and Shira. I am about to go into my third year doing color commentary for Abilene High football, and also do some radio work for KOXE in Brownwood, KVRP in Haskell and some stream/radio stuff for Hardin-Simmons and McMurry on occasion. I also serve on the Big Country FCA Board and coach or help coach just about everything my kids get involved in.
