Thoughts on the biggest stories in the eighth week of football in the Big Country.

BEST WINS OF THE WEEK

11-MAN

5: Sweetwater — The Mustangs jumped on Comanche early and never let up in a 55-14 win over Comanche. The Mustangs seem to be getting hot, and healthier, at the right time of the season.

4: Bangs - The Dragons improve to 2-0 in district play with a 28-27 victory at Hico. Bangs scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion with :37 seconds to play the earn the thrilling victory.

3: Cooper — The Cougars battled past Plainview in a shootout, winning on the road 56-43 to improve to 3-1 in district play.

2: Hamlin — The Pied Pipers gave up 14 points in the final few minutes to let Roscoe send the game to overtime, but Hamlin scored the only points in OT on a halfback pass from Isaiah Hutchings to Kyson McGee to get a big district win.

1: Early — The Longhorns turn heads for a second week in a row, taking down Clifton on the road 28-3 to improve to 2-0 in district play.

6-MAN

5: Panther Creek - The Panthers took care of Brookesmith 73-28 to help their playoff chances. The Panthers have now won five games this season after going winless in 2024.

4: Roby - The Lions got past Highland 40-16 to keep their playoff hopes alive. Roby has five wins with three games to go, matching the most wins in a season for the program since they went 5-5 in 202.

3: Blanket - The Tigers took care of Rising Star 52-6 to improve to 7-1 and set up a showdown with 7-1 Zephyr next week.

2: Menard - The District 15-1A Division I title was likely decided in a 62-40 victory for the Yellow Jackets.

1: Ira - The Bulldogs took down the district championship favorites from Westbrook at home 56-34. The race for two playoff spots between Ira, Hermleigh, Roby, and Westbrook will be cinema over the final three weeks of the season.
