2025 1A Division I MVPs

Postseason awards have been rolling in for players across the state, and in the six-man ranks, the Big Country has been very well represented.

It’s hard to argue that Gordon didn’t have one of the best Texas six-man offenses of all time in 2025, so it makes sense for a Longhorn to earn the Big Country Blitz 1A Division I Offensive MVP. Stryker Reed gets the nod for the second straight season after helping lead Gordon to its third straight state title. Reed ran for 1,195 yards and 27 touchdowns this season and also caught nine passes for 333 yards and seven scores and passed for 311 yards and six more touchdowns. He touched the ball 66 times in 2025 and scored on an amazing 34 of those plays.

Several more area players were stars on offense as well this season and were considered for Offensive MVP, with the closest being Robert Lee’s Brenner Sherwood. Sherwood threw for 1,619 yards and 24 touchdowns and racked up 1,854 yards and 42 touchdowns rushing as the Steers made their deepest six-man postseason run.

Also considered: Lane Goodson (May), Zander Abila (Knox City), Brandt Cox (Ira), Ry Reed (Gordon), Brayden Walters (Gordon), and Zaylan Delce (Hermleigh).

Gordon’s Brayden Walters is the Big Country Blitz 1A DI Defensive MVP for the second straight season after dominating once again for the state champs.

Walters finished the season with 107 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, three sacks, seven broken-up passes, an interception, and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Others considered for the 1A Division I Defensive MVP were Jackson Lusk (May), Ry Reed (Gordon), Stryker Reed (Gordon), Landon Tyler (Ira), AJ Wheeler (Baird), Brenner Sherwood (Robert Lee), and Hayden Simpson (Hermleigh).

Many more Big Country players delivered quality seasons, and they are listed as the Best of the Rest for 2025.
