Week 7 Rewind

Thoughts on the biggest stories in the seventh week of football in the Big Country.

BEST WINS OF THE WEEK

11-MAN

5: Bangs — The Dragons went winless in district a year ago, but that won’t be the case this time around. Bangs looked like a playoff team in a 48-0 road win over Ballinger.

4: Early — The Longhorns took down Tolar 43-14 to get off to a 1-0 start in district play, avenging a 56-0 loss to the Rattlers in 2024.

3: Hawley — The Bearcats handed state-ranked Anson its first loss of the season, jumping out to a 24-0 lead and holding off a second-half rally to win 39-28.

2: Cooper — The Cougars put it on Lubbock Cooper like few teams have in recent memory, pounding the Pirates 66-16 to improve to 2-1 in district play.

1: Brownwood — The Lions win their district opener with a late touchdown over previously unbeaten Lampasas 42-39. Brownwood has now won three in a row and looks like the top contender to Stephenville in the district.

Honorable Mention:
Cisco 30, Stamford 20 — The Loboes take down the defending district champs in the 4-2A Division I opener for both teams.
Jim Ned 56, Comanche 3 — The Indians avenge an overtime loss to Comanche in 2024 with a dominating effort in the district opener.
Goldthwaite 42, Frost 0 — The Eagles knock the Polar Bears from the ranks of the unbeaten, 42-0.

6-MAN

5: Jayton — The Jaybirds are expected to win at this point, and they did again. Jayton beat a good Paint Creek squad 63-8 to extend its winning streak to 22.

4: Blackwell — The Hornets find themselves on the list again, this time thanks to a district-opening 78-24 win over Olfen. The Hornets have won two in a row after starting the year 0-5.

3: Gorman — The Panthers won a key game against Baird, 55-20. This one could have huge playoff implications down the road.

2: Blanket/Zephyr — The Tigers and Bulldogs took down Gustine and Rising Star, the two teams trying to knock them off the top two spots in a very competitive district, in blowout fashion

1: Bluff Dale — The Bobcats earned a huge road win at previously unbeaten Three Way, 34-29, in a game that lived up to its billing as the top six-man game in the area in Week 7.
