Week 9 Rewind

Thoughts on the biggest stories in the ninth week of football in the Big Country.

BEST WINS OF THE WEEK

11-MAN

5: Dublin: The Lions turned in their best defensive effort of the season (by a wide margin) in a 57-7 win over Eastland. Dublin kept themselves in playoff position with the win.

4: Breckenridge: The Buckaroos took a 12-0 lead before bad weather hit Friday and completed the job the next day in a huge game in the 3-3A DI playoff chase. Breckenridge now has the inside track at the fourth playoff spot behind Jim Ned, Clyde, and Sweetwater and still has a chance at the three seed with a win over the Mustangs next week.

3: Clyde: The Bulldogs held off Sweetwater at home 27-20 to get to 3-0 in district play and stay tied for the district lead with Jim Ned. They’ll get a shot at the Indians at home next week.

2: Cisco: The Loboes are now all alone in first place in District 4-2A DI after rallying past Hawley 29-26 in the rain on Friday night.

1: Abilene High: The Eagles outlasted a weather delay and then got past Tascosa on the road 24-6. The win gets them at least a share of the district title, and they can clinch it outright with a win over Monterey at home on Halloween night.

6-MAN

5: Newcastle: The Bobcats took care of previously unbeaten Northside in a weather-shortened 46-8 decision Thursday to take control of District 6-1A D1.

4: Woodson: The Cowboys earned their first victory of the season in a big way, shutting out Moran on the road 70-0 Thursday night.

3: Loraine: The Bulldogs also got win number one of the season, taking down Trent 56-34 on the road to climb back into the playoff chase despite a 1-8 overall record.

2: Bronte: The Longhorns are now all alone atop the District 6-1A D2 standings thanks to a 75-40 road win over their neighbors up the road in Blackwell.

1: Zephyr: The Bulldogs look like they’ll be kings of 13-1A D2 once again after getting past Blanket 30-20 on Saturday night.

THE UNDEFEATED - WEEK 9

Two teams fall from the ranks of the undefeated this week: Robert Lee and Northside.

One more will certainly drop off next week as Jayton and Aspermont are set to do battle Thursday night.
