Howard Payne Beats Pacific in Gipson’s Debut + Photos
BROWNWOOD, Texas — The Yellow Jackets beat Pacific (Oregon) 21-13 in the head coaching debut of Coby Gipson at HPU Thursday night.
Howard Payne led 14-3 at the half, saw the Boxers pull within 14-10 in the third, then added a fourth quarter score to help put it away.
Blessing Ngene ran for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and quarterback Andon Mata added a 45-yard touchdown run of his own.
The Jackets limited Pacific to just 174 yards of total offense.
Jerwayne Parker led the HPU defense with nine tackles and broke up three passes.
Howard Payne will play at Texas Lutheran next Saturday.
