Educated Guesses: 2A Division II
Kickoff to the 2025 season is getting closer and closer, and the time has come to take a stab at how things will play out in each district featuring Big Country football teams.
I call them educated guesses, like your teachers used to, because I feel I have at least a little bit of knowledge about the upcoming season after speaking with area coaches for the 2025 edition of Big Country Blitz.
For the record, last season Big Country Blitz got six out of eight playoff picks correct in 2A D2.
Windthorst, #8 in the preseason polls, is the easy choice to win this one again, but after that, things get tricky.
Electra and Petrolia emerged as playoff teams a year ago, to the surprise of many. They both return a lot of starters (15 for Petrolia, 14 for Electra) and seem like good bets to return to the postseason.
Haskell has a new head coach in Creighton Henderson and enough talent to get the job done, but Archer City, a playoff team last season, should be in the mix as well.
Munday should be much improved and ready to challenge for the postseason, while Seymour welcomes a new head coach that will have to help the Panther offense overcome the loss of Brayden Loyd.
Playoff spots from this district were not decided until the final week of the season, and that could likely be the case once again in 2025.

Albany, surprise, surprise, enters the season as the favorites to claim yet another district title, but the competition will be fierce.
Hamlin is poised to make a good jump this season, but Roscoe, Cross Plains, and Miles should be in good shape to contend for a playoff bid as well.
Winters has work to do under first-year head coach Ryan Pannell, but the Blizzards are feeling good about being much more competitive this season as well.
This is one of the toughest districts in the Big Country, as at least one good team will miss the playoffs.

The Eagles find themselves in one of the toughest, and largest, 2A districts in the state again this season.
Bremond is preseason number 3, Mart is #15, and Goldthwaite checks in at #17 entering the year.
Goldthwaite found some success late in the year in 2024, shutting out Mart on the way to the playoffs. They have to replace some key players, but should be firmly in the postseason race when November rolls around.
Bremond returns an amazing 19 starters and is the early favorite, while Mart welcomes a new head coach and hopes to bounce back after a 2024 season that was disappointing for their high standards.
Star running back Dha’Corian Evans gives Chilton the edge on the field in the eight-team district to nab a playoff spot as well.
